City & Guilds level 3 dog grooming diploma 7863-03

As of 1st September 2017, it is a requirement of City & Guilds to have achieved the Level 2 Dog Groomers Assistant qualification before you can progress on to the Level 3 Dog Grooming Diploma.

External Candidates

You must have completed the following:-

  • Level 2  7763-02 City & Guilds Certificate for dog Grooming Assistants. (no other qualifications are acceptable)
  • Have a minimum of 6 months full time dog grooming experience

Your Portfolio of evidence must include:

  • copy of C&G L2 Dog Grooming Certificate, if you have other qualification such as Animal Care, Animal First Aid etc, you can also include
  • detailed statement of experience in dog grooming
  • any witness statements from employers and customers etc.
  • before and after photographs of your work, with a written account of the trim – clipping lines followed, equipment used, any specific owner requirements and time between appointments
  • include any evidence of attending seminars/demonstrations and/or taking part in grooming competitions

Assignments/Worksheets

Your centre will organise/plan when Summit assignments and worksheets are to be completed and submitted for marking.

Practical Assessment

Students will be on site for a minimum of four days – 2 days mandatory skills gap and 2 days for practical assessments.

The 4 types of dogs will also be arranged by the centre to be completed at a mutual time for yourself and centre.

Online Exam

The online exam will be held twice a year – June and November, dates and times arranged be C&G and venues arrange be the centre.

7863-03 – City & Guilds Level 3 Dog Grooming Diploma

On Site at Training Centre or

  • Practical Assessment 1: Risk assessment
  • Practical Assessment 2: Client consolation and style a drop coat
  • Practical Assessment 3: Hand strip
  • Practical Assessment 4: Style a wool mix and maintain equipment
  • Practical Assessment 5: Health Check and Breed Standard trim
  • Practical Assessment 6: First aid

There will also be written assignments and worksheets to complete to help you research and revise for the theory side of the qualification. These are to be completed both on-site and as part of home study. Documented guided home study until the required guided learning hours are met.

1 x online written exam – to be sat under full exam conditions (2hrs). This exam is held twice a year in June and November at an external site and you will be given a choice of which month you want to sit it following completion of the practical and theory assessments.

Already established as a groomer or Groomers Assistant?

Established groomers or groomers’ assistants do not need to complete a full course although they may be required to attend a pre-qualification assessment. They need to be grooming or have grooming experience for a minimum of 6 months, As a result of this assessment they may be advised to attend some tuition to reach the required standard. The qualification assessments can then be completed over the period of ‘ x’ days plus continued hours depending on the qualification being taken
